I was given my first camera as an 11th birthday present and went on to experiment with black and white film development and printing during my teens. With some of my first pay I bought a 35mm SLR camera and went on to success in what was one of the oldest camera clubs in the UK.

I have experience of all types of photography from landscape to macro to friends’ weddings, in colour and black and white. I am currently concentrating on portraiture, musicians and street photography, the latter particularly in my home town of Hastings, East Sussex.  I am immensely grateful to all my absurdly talented Hastings and St Leonards friends who have encouraged me and allowed me to take their portraits, a genre I have come to respect and love.  Particular thanks to Lucy Bell (of the Lucy Bell Gallery) for her assessment of my early portfolio and her encouragement.

Portraits

The portrait genre was one of the first established when photography was in its infancy. My approach to portraiture is that it should tell us something about the subject, what they do and something of their character.
 

Musicians

Music has played  huge part in my life, it has run parallel with my passion for photography.   I have good friends who are, or have been, professional musicians and I love to photograph them and their fellow players in action.

Around Town

Street photography is about observation, that is of people mostly, though sometimes light patterns alone can be  visually very strong, especially in black and white.
